17 July 2010 : SMILE by Spirited Children of Voice in a Million

An album is being released on the 13th September, as part of the commemorations and celebrations of the anniversary of the Battle of Britain.  The Album is called SMILE; and is sung by children from the Voice in a Million Choir.

The songs have been chosen as a mix between evocative songs from 1940 and more recent songs as a tribute to those serving and those who have served.  The children are singing songs for their great grandparents, grandparents in some cases their parents.

A donation from each album is going to the Battle of Britain Memorial Trust and the British Forces Foundation.

To give you an idea as the calibre of their voices, listen to Sophie Plummer aged 11 one of the two soloists on the album.

Background

‘Smile’ is a recording by the talented and spirited children of Voice In A Million and is being released to coincide with the 70th Anniversary of the Battle of Britain.

In the summer of 1940, favorites such as ‘Over The Rainbow’ and ‘We’ll Meet Again’ would resonate through the streets of Britain, whilst the brave young fighter pilots of the RAF; against overwhelming odds, fought fearlessly in their Spitfires and Hurricanes over the skies of Southern England, defeating the Luftwaffe in one of the most important battles in British History.

70 years later, those legendary heroes, immortalized by Sir Winston Churchill in his speech to the nation…’Never in the field of human conflict was so much owed by so may to so few’…will be honoured by the nation during the 70th anniversary celebrations. The Children of Voice in a Million have recorded this album, not only to celebrate those ’few’, but also our present day heroes. Those brave young men and women fighting a very different war in Afghanistan.

In a mix of evocative wartime and contemporary songs, this album unites the future generations of young people to remember the bravery and the sacrifice of those who served, whilst ‘making a difference’ to those who soldier on!
