I was born in Glinton, just north of Peterborough, where my parents still live, I even attended the local village schools so began to get ‘itchy’ feet quite early on, my first big adventure was to travel to Australia two days after my 18th birthday and from that moment on have not lost that urge to travel, my list of countries to visit increases all the time.
I am married to Richard and we have two girls, Charlotte aged 17 and Rebecca aged 15, I have had a varied career to date, due mainly to us moving around with the RAF and then I choose to take time off to be with the girls in their early years.
I started my working life in a bank, then spent 10 years in various roles within Thomas Cook Travellers Cheques, but then had to leave due to Richard’s first posting, where I moved into a sales & marketing department to become its’ Assistant Manager. When Richard left the RAF, we returned home and on deciding it was time to get back out into the workplace, I was very lucky to secure the role as PA to the Managing Director of a training company, another extremely busy and varied role. I then decided I needed a change of direction and spent several years as a Special Needs Teaching Assistant, working with some service children, their families and a whole host of other special needs children, very different but again very rewarding and great fun. Luckily for me, I’m now back in admin, part of an exciting new organisation with a great team of people, ready for the challenges ahead.
Whilst Richard was in the RAF we lived in SFA and moved 7 times in 6 years, he went on numerous deployments and spent 5 months in the first Gulf War. I think I should say here, that I lived in SFA, Richard just visited occasionally! We both enjoyed station life, living at Coltishall (now closed), Cranwell, Brawdy (now an Army Barracks), Watton (whilst awaiting a quarter) and finally Swanton Morley (now an Army Barracks). Were they trying to tell us something, I wonder?
When I’m not trying to book the next holiday, I enjoy playing Badminton, reading and cooking.
As a Service person living in SFA, have you ever had to take leave to wait at home for a contractor? If so, please answer 'yes' and click on the brown ‘Have your Say’ block and let us know how much leave you have lost this way in the last 12 months.
