I was introduced to RAF life at an early age, my father was already serving, born in Fontainebleau, France and spent my first months of life in a caravan in the woods – early quarters apparently.  After various postings in the UK my father was sent back to France, this time we were at SHAPE near Paris.  Once again we lived in a caravan albeit a bigger one, and I spent a couple of years schooling at the Lycee International.  Then back to Britain when President de Gaulle decided SHAPE had to leave France.  More UK postings followed and then a brilliant posting to Singapore where we spent nearly three years until the RAF pulled out.  Back in Britain we were stationed at HQSC RAF Andover where my father retired and I spent my final two years at school.

My association with the RAF wasn’t finished though, as I joined the MOD and spent two and a half years working at RAF Andover prior to HQSC relocating to Brampton.  I then spent a few years in various roles which included working on the natural gas pipelines when they were laid.  I moved up the Lincolnshire area 25 years ago and discovered the newspaper industry where I spent 20 years in two stints, mostly managing advertisement departments.  Between the two periods in newspapers I was a sales and marketing manager for a sign making and shop fitting company.

I am married to Kathy who runs a playgroup.  Kathy’s parents lived next door to us in the Fontainebleau woods all those years ago, but that’s another story.  We have two children, Jonathan, about to finish his final year at university and Gina who is sitting her GCSEs.

Badminton a couple of times a week helps keep me fit and I also enjoy canoeing and hiking. In much of my spare time I maintain our old Victorian house.

I was thrilled to join the Families Federation team and have a connection with the RAF again.  I look forward to assisting in the future development of the Federation.
