Absence on Medical Grounds

Leave on Medical Grounds is an authorised period of absence in addition to Annual Leave to allow Service personnel the opportunity to rest or receive treatment for an illness or injury.

Leave on Medical Grounds includes 3 types of absence:

1. Sick Leave is an authorised period of absence or convalescence granted to a Service person who is, due to sickness or injury, unfit for military duty.
2. Hospital In-Patient is a period of absence granted to a Service person who is admitted to hospital for treatment for more than 24 hours. 
3. Hospital Sick Leave is a period of absence recommended by the   patient’s consultant whilst a patient is undergoing treatment at a secondary care facility
