Paternity Leave

An entitlement to 2 weeks’/ Paternity Leave (ie 14 days) on basic weekly pay rate, including Specialist Pay.  The entitlement to 2 weeks’ Paternity Leave will apply to a person who is:

The biological father of the child with the responsibility for the child’s upbringing; or

  1. A Service person who is not the biological parent of the child but is married to or in a civil partnership with the mother and has or will have (apart from any responsibility of the mother) the main responsibility for the upbringing of the child; or
  2. A Service person who is not the biological parent of the child but who lives with the mother and the child in an enduring family relationship and is not an immediate relative of the mother and has or will have (apart from any responsibility of the mother) the main responsibility for the upbringing of the child. 
  3. An immediate relative includes a parent, grandparent, sibling, aunt or uncle and includes relationships of both full and half blood.

The period of Paternity Leave must be used only for the purpose of caring for a child or supporting the child’s mother.
