The Invictus UK Trials Sheffield 2019 will see up to 350 wounded, injured and sick veterans and serving personnel compete in adaptive sports over four days, 23 – 26 July, in top sporting venues across the City of Sheffield.
Competitors will be supported by their friends, family and the local community of Sheffield as they take part in the nine adaptive sports – archery, athletics, cycling, indoor rowing, powerlifting, sitting volleyball, swimming, wheelchair basketball and wheelchair rugby.
Martin Colclough, Event Director for the Invictus UK Trials and National Head of Sports Recovery at Help for Heroes, said:
“The Invictus UK Trials will be a brilliant demonstration of the power of sport and we are here to help every individual exceed their personal recovery goals – be it to take part, set a personal best or take home a medal. We’re proud to continue our legacy of delivering outstanding sports recovery to wounded veterans, through Invictus UK.”
The Trials form part of the selection process for the 65 strong team that will represent the UK at the Invictus Games The Hague 2020.
Defence Secretary Penny Mordaunt said:
“I want to wish all competitors the best of luck at the Invictus UK Trials and thank all those who will be supporting. The games are about recovery, community and courage and are testament to the power of sport and the human spirit.”
In addition to the sporting competition, a wider arts programme will take place across the city, supported by Invictus UK and the City of Sheffield, including photographic and art exhibitions, workshops and an employment forum.

“It’s fantastic to see so many people in Sheffield this week for the Invictus UK Trials. Whether you’re competing in sport, supporting your friend or family member, or attending one of the many events taking place around the city we hope that you are inspired by the activities and people around you.
The Legion is proud to be supporting the friends, families and carers of the UK Team. Without their support many of the competitors wouldn’t have made it here today. Friends and family play a vital part in the recovery of WIS serving and ex-serving personnel, which is why this week is as much for them as their competitors.”
Invictus UK, presented by BAE Systems, is delivering the Invictus UK Trials Sheffield 2019, funded by the Armed Forces Covenant Fund Trust. The Invictus UK partnership comprises Help for Heroes, the Ministry of Defence and The Royal British Legion.
