Summer finally appears to be here (well almost), and it’s the perfect time to maximise your Defence discounts and plan a getaway with friends and family or enjoy some well-deserved ‘me time.’ 

Whether you’re looking for days out, a staycation in the UK, or an adventure abroad, Defence Discount ServiceBlue Light Card, and the Civil Service Sports Council (CSSC) offer savings to help you have a great summer.

There are other discount services to explore too – including MyDiscounts and Boundless for civilian staff, and Tickets for Troops for the Armed Forces.

We know that not everyone will be taking time off during the summer or going away, but here’s a flavour of how you can make the most of the benefits available, to save money and enjoy your summer holiday – or in fact any holiday time, whatever the season (or weather)!

Staycations

It’s always important to find time for yourself, whatever you like to do. If you’re into fitness and sports, stay active and healthy with reduced rates on gym memberships, fitness classes, and sports equipment. Or if you’re looking for dining and entertainment, treat yourself – and friends and family – to a night out, with restaurant, film tickets, and theatre show discounts.

How to access Defence discounts

For all Defence people

  • Defence Discount Service – It’s free to sign up and access thousands of online discounts. You can also buy a Defence Privilege Card for £4.99 to unlock access to discounts on the high street in stores, restaurants, and venues. Membership is valid for five years.
  • Blue Light Card – Register online to access a huge range of deals and discounts from the UK’s leading discount service for emergency services, NHS, social care workers, and Armed Forces/Defence. Membership costs £4.99 and is valid for two years.
  • Civil Service Sports Council – Join CSSC for just £59.88 annually (£53.88 if you receive a pension) or pay a £4.99 monthly direct debit (£4.49 if you receive a pension), and enjoy fun family experiences, supermarket and shopping discounts, and fitness, education, gym, home entertainment, and exclusive member benefits.

For Armed Forces personnel

  • Tickets for Troops – Register for opportunities, when off work, to attend a maximum of ten cultural, sporting, and music events for free per calendar year, with up to three people.

For Defence Civil Servants

  • MyDiscounts, accessed via the MyLifestyle hub – Free to register for MODDSTLDefence, Equipment, and Support (DE&S), Submarine Delivery Agency (SDA), and Royal Fleet Auxiliary (RFA) colleagues – the website provides online offers, shopping vouchers, and discounted Reloadable Gift Cards.
  • Boundless – For just £40 a year get instant access to benefits worth £260 and opportunities to take advantage of other discounts. Boundless aims to provide outstanding value for public sector and civil service workers, delivering great experiences, holidays, days out, and a range of exclusive savings.

A Holiday Salary Advance is also available for civilians, to help with holiday and Christmas expenses. You can apply for up to two salary advances in a rolling year, up to £500 each if you work full-time and £250 each if you work part-time. Find out how to apply.
