Boarding School children able to access routine dental care during School Children Visits

Thursday 16th March 2023

Further to the engagement the RAF Families Federation has undertaken, the MOD has announced that from 1 April 2023 Boarding School children and students will be able to access routine dental care during School Children Visits (SCV).

What does this mean?

Boarding school children should be registered with a UK dentist, routinely receive their dental care in the UK and are expected to be dentally fit prior to an SCV. However, if they have a dental issue whilst on an SCV they can access host nation dental treatment subject to HEALIX approval and appointment availability. Note: this does not include orthodontics.

When will this change take effect?

This will be published in the new Overseas Dental Defence Instruction that will be released on the 1 Apr. This Easter Holiday (2023) will be the first availability when the process will be implemented.
