Employment and training

This section will step you through some of the many employment and training opportunities available. A lot of the training is provided free of charge to the armed forces community, often funded by the Armed Forces Covenant.

The Armed Forces Covenant plays a part too

The Covenant overall is about getting a fair deal and removing ‘disadvantage’ from those who serve in the armed forces, or the serving family.

In terms of Employment, some 4,000 organisations have signed the Armed Forces Covenant and those signatories have access to a tri-service platform – Forces Families Jobs which launched in September ’19. You’ll be able to search and apply for jobs knowing that those advertising are all forces friendly employers.

The RAF FF team is always on hand to help and advise on anything covenant-related as are your Unit’s Covenant Champions (your HIVE can direct you to the right person).

To find general employment advice and guidance for both employees as well as employers, the ACAS website also offers online info, downloadable booklets, leaflets and handbooks covering a wide range of employment matters from writing a contract of employment, to holiday entitlement legislation etc.
