As part of Health Month, Wg Cdr Sharon McMillan (SO1  Wellbeing & Resilience) provides information on maintaining a healthy lifestyle amidst the Covid-19 pandemic.

With a high number of us currently confined to our homes and getting out less, the temptation might be to head to the fridge or food cupboard.

Mindful eating is about being aware of why you eat. We often eat due to negative emotions, stress or boredom. Increasing rates of obesity are found in many Western populations affecting all ages groups.  Multiple risk factors include: unhealthy eating patterns, poor nutritional choices, increased sedentary behaviour, reduced physical activity and increased calorie intake.   

The Defence Nutrition Advisory Service has produced a number of useful pamphlets which provide information on the importance of energy requirements if your lifestyle is more sedentary than usual, how to move more, sit less and work off those additional treats.

  • Defence Nutrition Advisory Service Resources. DNAS is run by a group of Registered Dietitians and Nutritionists who provide key information on a range of nutrition topics and practical tips to help promote healthier lifestyle choices and optimise ‘military’ capability via email support and a range of factsheets, briefs and workshops.
  • PHE One You is here to help you make small changes that fit your life, so you feel better and healthier, everyday.​
  • NHS Change4Life has a range of content including recipes and activity ideas to help your family be healthier and happier. 
  • Live Well NHS Choices provides all the information you need to know about the major food groups and a healthy, balanced diet. 
  • Public Health England Health Promotion Resources.  Public Health England offer a comprehensive range of free resources to help promote healthy lifestyles  This includes a guide on eating well.
