Has there been a change in your personal circumstances? Are your children recorded? Is your Next of Kin/Emergency Contact correct?
RAF FF Outreach and Support Manager, Richie Morgan (pictured) explains why it is really important for Service Personnel to keep their personal details up-to-date on the RAF’s Joint Personnel Administration (JPA) system:
JPA is the focal point for a number of areas affecting Service personnel and their families, from allowances to career management. It is the main source of information for Human Resource professionals and Career Managers and ensuring your details are correct will assist them in carrying out their role. Misinformation can impact you financially or when reviewing suitability for future assignments.
Has something changed?
JPA, the intranet-based personnel administration system used by the RAF since April 2006. It is a personal responsibility of every Service person to keep their data correct and up-to-date. If not, you could be losing out.
- Has there been a change in your personal circumstances?
- Are your children recorded?
- Is your Next of Kin/Emergency Contact correct?
In addition, decisions about future career could be based upon out-of-date information, and promotion prospects could be relying on Boards taking decisions without full facts. Things to consider include:
- Are your Assignment Preferences up to date?
- Is your Carer Manager aware of family circumstances?
- What stage of education is/are your child/children at?
When was the last time you checked?
Checking and confirming your personal details are correct is very important and you are encouraged to check your information regularly, and at least on an annual basis.
If you are reading this as a family member of someone in the RAF, please take some time to ask your Serving ‘other half’ when they last updated the JPA system – especially if you have had a new addition to your family recently.

Richie leads the RAF Families Federation’s Outreach and Support Team – your first point of contact if you reach out to us for advice on any issues or concerns you may have whilst in the RAF.
Richie came to the Families Federation having left the RAF as a Warrant Officer, Personnel Management Squadron so this subject is one he has helped many with whilst Serving and knows first-hand the impact of ‘not’ keeping your JPA records up to date.
