The RAF FF’s ‘Brighten your Day’ team say thank you
We would like to say huge thank you to you all for sending in your many applications to our ‘Brighten your Day’ initiative. We were overwhelmed with the response which was amazing to see. Here’s a snapshot of the goodwill that was able to be shared.
We wanted you to know that we were thinking of you all during this lockdown and the Annington Trust supported each of the three families federations for that to happen. For the RAF Families Federation, we decided to open up to applications to allow you to choose and put in requests which would help you, your family or those dear.
Applications were received by you all as Regulars, Reservists, single and married personnel and your families. Many were even nominated by line managers or friends of personnel and family members and has been heartwarming to read the many requests. Many were clearly thinking of others, not just themselves/their own family.
The criteria was to give someone a ‘lift’ during COVID-19 and everyone who applied has now been emailed to share if they have been successful or not.
- A family has been shielding since the beginning of the restrictions with a young family (partner and 2 children) due to a significant medical issue with one of the children. This has been an extremely difficult time for the whole family whilst in and out of hospital who were now also waiting on further medical results. The serviceman was nominated by his boss. Toys/family games were requested and granted.
- A single serviceman requested a web cam and a WiFi extender for his 11 year old brother. He hadn’t seen him since the start of lockdown and whilst his brother had a computer, he didn’t have a camera (or a mobile phone). These items would allow him to be able to actually see his brother whilst speaking to him.
- A family returned from overseas to spend time with a terminally ill father. Due to the circumstances they were unable to see him which has been a very tough on the family as a whole. Dad/grandad is a veteran and loves the Armed Forces still to this day. A t-shirt from the grandchildren was requested.
“What a wonderful gesture.“
“Thank you so much for supporting the RAF by offering to ‘Brighten Our Day’ – a lovely idea.“
“It is amazing you are providing this opportunity to help personnel through this crisis.“
“What a lovely gesture this is, in these unprecedented times!“
“Thank you for organising this great initiative to help people through such difficult times.“
Thank you to Annington Trust for making this tri-Service initiative possible!
