RAF Sport launches into an exciting future as RAF Central Fund completes merger with RAF Sports Federation and 36 RAF Sports Associations.

RAF Central Fund is pleased to announce the successful completion of ground breaking mergers with the RAF Sports Federation and thirty-six RAF Sports Associations, marking a pivotal moment in the evolution of sports and physical activity within the RAF.

Exciting future for RAF Sport

This strategic integration aims to transform the operating model of RAF Sport, creating a more efficient and streamlined approach for the benefit of all RAF personnel.

By consolidating the Sports Federation into the Central Fund, we aim to significantly enhance the administration and governance of RAF Sport, providing lasting and measurable benefits to all those directly involved.

Bringing the RAF Sports Associations into the fold, we are now able to coordinate resources, improve efficiencies, and establish comprehensive oversight and governance support. It also positions RAF Sport for lasting success by opening opportunities to exploit commercial avenues as a unified operation.

The RAF Central Fund will maintain its name and continue its role as a central hub for supporting sports and physical activities within the RAF. The core objective remains to create more opportunities for personnel to access and succeed in sports and physical activities.

Ross Perriam, CEO of RAF Central Fund, emphasised the essential nature of this merger in strengthening the landscape of physical activity and sport within the Royal Air Force.

He said:

“This process has involved a consultative approach between the Central Fund and the RAF with RAF personnel at the heart of our decision making.

“We will focus on strengthening the support we provide to Sports Associations, in turn reducing their individual risk and assisting them to deliver experiences that lead to improved physical and mental wellbeing outcomes for Association members and physically active personnel.

“The Central Fund believes that this exciting step for RAF Sport will empower all serving RAF personnel to develop their full potential through sports and physical activities.”
