Royal Air Force personnel based in Romania have taken part in the Bucharest Air Show where crowds saw a flypast by a Typhoon FGR4.
Members of 135 Expeditionary Air Wing (EAW) travelled from their base on the Black Sea Coast to participate in the annual air show held at the capital’s International Airport. They joined colleagues from 11 other NATO countries.
Senior Aircraftman Katrina Knox (28) from the EAW, said:
“We are here to promote the RAF and show everyone what we do. It’s an international air show so it’s great to have the opportunity to meet and talk to people from different countries. I am a bit of an aircraft geek and thoroughly enjoyed seeing so many spectators interested in what we do and sharing my experience with them.”
As well as a flypast by one of the EAW’s Typhoon aircraft, the thousands of visitors met some of the British airmen and women serving at Mihail Kogalniceanu airbase near Constanta.
One of those visitors, Mihai Tudor Popescu (28) from Bucharest, explained his interest in aviation:
“I have liked aircraft since I was child. Having my uncle working as an engineer in charge of flight safety only encouraged my passion aviation. This year’s air show is the best one I have seen so far, clearly showing how skilled the pilots are, and the atmosphere has been fantastic.”
This year was the 10th Bucharest Air Show and was dedicated to the ongoing Romania 100 celebrations. As well as numerous flypasts there were approximately 150 civilian and military aircraft on static display. Senior officials from Romania attended the event, including the Minister Transport, Minister of National Defence and the Minister of Economy.
