Department for Education (DfE) and Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC) acknowledges lived experience of Armed Forces Families in special educational needs (SEND) review.
Last year we sought your views on the Government’s request for additional information on their green paper on the future of the SEND and alternative provision (AP) system. Using your feedback we put together a comprehensive summary of how the unique experiences of RAF Families would be benefitted from the improvements we suggested.
The final report has now been published: Independent analysis of the consultation responses to the SEND review: right support, right place, right time (publishing.service.gov.uk)
In the report it has been acknowledged that a quick turnaround of Educational, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs) would be welcomed by Armed Forces families. There is strong support for digitalisation of EHCPs which would help with the mobility of Armed Forces families. There is a lot of support for a single national SEND and AP system which would certainly be welcomed by Armed Forces families as they move around the country.
We look forward to hearing what the next steps are with how these proposals will be taken forward.
