As part of its commitment to the Armed Forces Covenant, the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) introduced a new National Insurance credits initiative, in April 2016.
Its aim is to support spouses or civil partners who have lost out on employment whilst accompanying their UK Armed Forces husband/wife/civil partner on an overseas posting.
To be eligible the spouse or civil partner must have been born on or after 6 Apr 1953 (woman), or 6 Apr 1951 (man), and accompanied their serving spouse/partner outside the UK at any time since 6 Apr 1975.
