A FAB group sat on a hilltop with pebbles placed in front of them to read out the letters FAB

Tuesday 5th April 2022

If your child is 19 years old or younger on the first day of camp, and has suffered the loss of a parent or family member while serving in the British Armed Forces, then you may be eligible for a Families’ Activities Breaks (FAB) camp.

What is FAB?

FAB is a non-public funded, tri-Service charity (registered charity number 1178108), providing fun and challenging activity camps around the UK for bereaved military families. A FAB camp is a fully-paid* week away for bereaved military families; a welcome break to meet and socialise with others who have experienced a similar loss.

Priority is given to families who fall into the above category, however, military families who have suffered a bereavement outside of this criteria will be considered by the committee on a case-by-case basis.

*Families will be asked for a small holding deposit on confirmation of a place; this will be returned on arrival at the camp.

FAB Camps 2022

There are two FAB Camps available this summer with spaces still available on both:

Newlands, Keswick, Cumbria: 29 Jul – 5 Aug 2022

By popular demand, we’ll be returning to this stunning location. Set in the middle of the Lake District National Park, we’ll have the whole of this site to ourselves. With spacious grounds, a river running right past the front door and with direct access on to the fells, rivers and lakes, where could be better than Newlands? And for the activities, we’ll be making the most of the stunning scenery in and around the activity centre. There will be a good variety of activities; we’ll make sure there’s something for everyone to get involved in.

Note this camp is Friday to Friday.

Stamford, Lincolnshire: 7 – 14 Aug 2022

This is a brand new location for FAB and we’re very excited about it. Situated in the historic Georgian town of Stamford, we will be making the most of the comfortable home-from-home Stamford School site boarding houses. Dating back a thousand years, the town came into prominence in the 9th and 10th centuries and exudes character. Stamford is located on the River Welland, Lincolnshire. The school offers a combination of beautiful buildings and modern facilities in stunning surroundings.

For the activities, we’ll be travelling to the nearby Adventure Rutland activity centre to take part in raft-building, bushcraft, paddlesport, archery and orienteering. As ever, we’ll make sure there’s something for everyone to get involved in.

Note that this camp is Sunday to Sunday.
