blood stocks

Friday 1st June 2018

The NHS Blood and Transplant is calling on Service Personnel (and family members where permissible) to help top up UK blood stocks.

Supplies of two vital blood groups are running low – including O negative, the only blood type which can be given safely to any patient in an emergency situation. The call-up comes because serving (and ex) military personnel are more likely to know their blood type.

O negative and B negative donors are being prioritised and they can walk in and donate at several of NHS Blood and Transplant’s fixed site donor centres. You can find all centre details at www.blood.co.uk or call 0300 123 23 23.

Anyone with booked appointments are asked to stick to them, but if you know you cannot attend then please let NHS Blood know as soon as possible so that the session can be freed-up for others to donate lifesaving blood.
